A new attorney group, the Deputy City Attorneys V’s in the City of Oakland, affiliated with Local 21 in July when they were in the midst of bargaining. Following the affiliation, Union representatives began sitting at the bargaining table. However, after a few weeks of bargaining the City threatened to unilaterally impose a contract, despite not meeting the legal requirements needed to reach impasse.
The attorneys group bargaining priority was that they wanted similar language to what other Deputy City Attorney’s in Oakland have, who are also represented by Local 21. One major area of parity sought was an increase in acting pay. With the hard work of Diane Milner, Heather Lee, and Oakland VP Jeff Levin, we reached a tentative agreement with the City on September 19, winning much of the same language that the Deputy City Attorney I-IV’s have. The Oakland City Council is expected to ratify the new contract on October 4.
