L21 Members Receive Impact Award

A group of Local 21 Members were recognized in March when their project Better BikewaySJ received a SPUR Impact Award.  Project members include AEA’s Anthony Do, Octavio Duran, Shu Su, Kyle Tanhueco and CAMP’s Peter Bennett.

The Impact Awards “acknowledge outstanding impact by public sector employees in city and county government in Santa Clara County who are making a difference within government and the community at large in the areas of housing, transportation, placemaking and urban design, and sustainability and resilience.” according to the SPUR website.  SPUR promotes good planning and good government in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The number of residents and employees in downtown San Jose is expected to double in the next five to 10 years. This ambitious project remade San Jose’s streets into a network of protected bike lanes in a matter of months. It is the first major effort in Santa Clara County to redesign streets rapidly using innovative, cost-effective methods. Better BikewaySJ has elevated the role of San Jose streets as public spaces, according to SPUR.  To view a video on the project, go here.
