Oakland Bulletin: Chapter Elections, Labor Day Planning, and More!

This is a super-sized newsletter for August and here are the important highlights:

  • Our front page story is about how Local 21 got anti-Labor language taken out of the Oakland Police Commission ordinance, which was a threat to all Local 21 Chapters in Oakland.
  • Our Electronic Work Related Tools Committee has finally got to work and while there is a lot of work to be done on this project, we are hopeful a fair, transparent and worker-friendly policy will emerge (see page 2).
  • August Lunch and Learns will be about Political Action, see our story on page 3 for more information.
  • Chapter elections are this November. If you want a detailed list of which positions are up for election as well as job description, see pages 4 and 5 for more information.
  • If you missed our FMLA presentations, there is an overview of the law on page 7 of the bulletin.
  • With election season upon us, it is important for members to not only understand how the endorsement process for Local 21 works (page 8), but the timing of the endorsements and how you can participate. (page 9)
  • Lastly, it is not too early to start planning for Labor Day 2016… join the Alameda Central Labor Council at their free family picnic. Music is provided and you can meet real life Rosie the Riveters! (page 10)
