Oakland Members Honored

Earlier this week, outgoing Local 21 Oakland Vice President Jeff Levin was honored by the City Council for his 28 years of public service. Levin began his career with the City of Oakland as an intern, and will be retiring at the end of this year from his position as the Housing Policy & Programs Manager. He has also been instrumental in growing and strengthening our union in Oakland and around the Bay Area, through his role as an Executive Committee member and union leader. We are all thankful to Jeff for his intelligence, thoughtfulness, and dedication to our members and the labor movement. Despite Levin’s retirement, he will remain involved with Local 21 through the City of Oakland’s upcoming contract negotiations to provide technical support and institutional knowledge.

West Oakland Senior Center Director and Local 21 City of Oakland member Dorothy Poston received an Elder Advocates Award from the Congress of California Seniors, a nonprofit education and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the life of seniors. Poston was one of six honorees at this year’s regional Elder Advocates Awards Celebration. She was recognized for her endless dedication and commitment to serving elders in the West Oakland community.
