San Jose Local 21 Members Work Hard to Elect Huy Tran

Votes matter. In 2016, Councilmember Lan Diep was elected to the San Jose City Council by a narrow margin of 12 votes. This year, our San Jose Local 21 members are hard at work to help elect a pro-worker candidate, Huy Tran, to the San Jose City Council (District 4). Our members have worked 55 shifts to support Huy Tran, and we still have more planned.

We support Huy Tran because of his life work fighting for San Jose and Santa Clara County’s working families. As a labor attorney, he is dedicated to supporting our working families on employment issues, including wage theft, harassment, and discrimination.

Currently, he is a Steering Committee member for the Santa Clara County Wage Theft Coalition, Board member and past-President of the Vietnamese American Roundtable, and served as an appointed member of the Housing and Community Development Commission for the City of San José.

Brian Lee, a senior engineer, has regularly phone-banked on Wednesday nights at the South Bay Labor Council with his colleagues for Huy Tran. He says, “I volunteer because Huy is a great guy, and he believes in the power of the people. He actually cares about the community, basic human rights like housing, and community services.”

German Sedana, an IT manager, says, “I want to support a candidate that supports us.” He and his colleague, Keith Chow, volunteer during their lunch break to phone bank for Huy Tran. Keith, an engineer and resident of District 4 says, “I want the candidate in District 4 to do a better job than our Councilmember.”

San Jose Local 21 members choose to volunteer for candidates that put people over profits. We’re committed to electing a candidate that cares about our workers and city services. We’re ready for more shifts and counting!
